As 2016 seems to be rolling along swiftly, Sub.mission has provided us with no shortage of top-notch bass music to bring in the new year and meet the needs of bass music lovers of every spectrum. This past Tuesday night was no exception as a massive roster of both local and nationwide talent graced the decks at Electronic Tuesdays to bring forth yet another massive night in sound that won’t soon be forgotten. The vibe and energy that pulsated throughout the dance floor this past Tuesday night was truly remarkable and proved once again how spoiled Denver is when it comes to the weekly gatherings at Electronic Tuesdays. For nearly 5 years strong, Sub.mission has curated this night to showcase the hottest upcoming local talent as well as OG’s in the game. Regardless of your personal preferences when it comes to bass music, Electronic Tuesdays has something for everyone and you’ll never be disappointed. Here’s the rewind!
The night began with the weekly DJ battles featuring local talents BVNE, Gonzo, & Sin7. The 3 selectors took the stage and made the most out of their 30 minute time slots to get the crowd moving and show that they have what it takes to beat out the competition and advance to the next round of the battles. This week’s throwdown featured a variety of styles ranging from deeper Dubstep, Trap, and all the way to aggressive tear-out dubstep styles. Each artists set the tone early in the night and proved why it is important to make your way to the dance floor as soon as doors open so you don’t miss a beat. When it was all said and done, Sin7 emerged as this week’s winner and his minimal, 140 sound impressed the judges and audience alike. Catch Sin7 live in the mix once again at the January winners showcase battles taking place next month at Electronic Tuesdays where Sin7 will battle it out agains the fellow winners of the month of January!

Following the opening DJ Battles, it was now time for New Mexico’s very own Crix Saiz to take the stage and kick things up a notch. Some of you might remember Crix Saiz from his semi-recent set in Denver when he performed at Sub.mission’s Halloween party and held it down on the primary support slot for Goth Trad & Nomine. Having seen Crix Saiz live in the mix at that massive Halloween party a few months ago, I knew to buckle up tight and braced myself for yet another huge performance from the man himself. Prior to his set on Tuesday night, Mr. Saiz put out a mix featuring a bunch of original material as well as tunes from some of the game’s top talents like EshOne, Kahn, Neek, Trashbat, Vivek, & more! The mix served as a mini-teaser for his set a few nights ago and got us prepared for the sound that he unleashed on Tuesday night. Check it out HERE. His supreme mixing abilities combined with next level track selection made for an unforgettable performance and Cervantes’ Other Side and he flawlessly set the tone for a headlining set from DJUNYA. The set was comprised of a combination of Dubstep classics, new aged dance floor bangers, and of course, a fair amount of UK Grime! Crix Saiz did an amazing job of warming up the crowd and setting the vibe for the rest of the night and I sure hope to see him perform in Denver again more often!

As the dance floor continued to take shape and became flooded with both new and familiar faces, it was now time for the one like DJUNYA to take the stage and make an impact in his highly anticipated Mile High return. Djunya has been performing for Sub.mission since the early years and his return to Denver was very well received at The Other Side. Internationally credited for helping put the United States on the map throughout the underground dubstep circuit, Djunya is well known for his top notch production and supreme mixing abilities that captivate the crowd to move from beginning to end. From the moment he took the stage, he performed a set that was reminiscent of the classic, early dubstep styles and his set served as a breath of fresh air. Refreshing melodies and sub-heavy percussions had everyone in the room on their toes and vibing out to his signature sound. His production is multi-faced and his influences stem from Dubstep, Hip-Hop, Downtempo beats, Experimental sound, and most recently the producer has been dabbling with 160-170bpm tunes as well. On Tuesday night Djunya played out to the crowd and his set was packed with that classic bass-heavy sound that he is widely known for. The vibe and energy that consumed the room was thick as ever and Djunya made a statement in his Denver return. My favorite part of his set was when he threw down his legendary tune ‘Contact’. To experience the groove and vibe of that monumental track on the sound system at Cervantes’ Other Side was something special and there wasn’t a still body in the room. The roar from the crowd accompanied by clapping hands throughout the set proved how much the audience was enjoying Djunya’s set and he brought it back to the old school for all the true steppers. To see such an experienced and well-rounded talent perform in the intimacy of Cervantes’ Other Side was a very special treat and made for a night that I won’t soon forget. Big ups to Djunya for kicking a proper lesson in true sound system culture!

Next up it was now time for Sub.mission resident Subliminal to take the decks and keep the late night crew going hard ‘til the night came to an end. Subliminal is one of my personal favorite DJ’s on the Sub.mission roster of residents and I couldn’t picture a better artist to close out the night. Every time Subliminal is live in the mix he brings something new and fresh to the table and this Tuesday night was no exception. Tunes like Commodo’s ‘Space Cash’, Thelem’s ‘Haunted Harmonics’ and Loefah’s classic remix of ‘Jah War’ featuring Flowdan erupted the crowd and had the audience breaking a sweat on this fine Tuesday night. Often times I find it hard to believe that Denver can get down so hard on Tuesday nights but the support and community here is unlike anything I have ever seen before. Jaw-dropping beats accompanied by vocals from The X-Tra Stamina Emcee combined to deliver another timeless performance from Subliminal and but the time his set was over, he only left us wanting more.
