The excitement leading into Tuesday night’s show was surreal. From the moment that I had found out that I would finally be seeing Requake’s Denver debut at Electronic Tuesdays along with Badklaat, my calendar had been marked with great anticipation and it was everything that I had hoped for and so much more. With the Sub.mission 9 year anniversary looming around the corner, Tuesday night was the best pre-game to launch the festivities and hundreds of people experienced one of the most groundbreaking Electronic Tuesdays of all time. Here’s the rewind!
The night began at 9:00pm sharp as Sub.mission residents Trisicloplox & Caustik took the stage to set the tone early in the night with a massive back-to-back session. The bass heads made their way to the dance floor and prepared for the madness that would ensue. Trisicloplox’s signature dark and obscure sound combined with Caustik’s weighty style to deliver a fully balanced round of bass weight to get us started. Before I knew it, the dance floor was packed from front-to-back and smiling faces graced the entire crowd. Both Caustik and Trisicloplox have been putting in some serious work and pushing the limits of bass music for quite a while now and each performance is refreshing and unique in its own right. The vibe was thick, the ground was rumbling, and the night had only begun.
Next up in rotation it was now time for AOWL & Swayd to amplify the energy in the room kick things up a notch. If you’ve been keeping up with the local scene in Denver, Swayd & AOWL are 2 names that can’t be overlooked. Not only are they known for their top-notch production and original tunes, but their live DJ sets are earth shattering as well. As they are no strangers to Electronic Tuesdays, Swayd & AOWL have performed insane back-to-back sets at Cervantes’ Other Side over the years and on Tuesday night they set the tone flawlessly. Their energy is infections and consumed the entire crowd upon taking the stage. The duo chopped up the decks and riled up the audience with their bouncy, wonky sound and proved why they are a true force to be reckoned with when they’re live in the mix. Tunes like Swayd & AOWL’s very own ‘Impregnate’, ignited the crowd along with other dance floor bangers like Rusko’s ‘Woo Boost’ and Gentlemen’s Club’s ‘LNDN TWN’ were crowd favorites and the duo put on a crazy performance as we’ve all come to expect from them. Be sure to catch AOWL & Swayd crushing Cervantes’ Other Side once again on May 3rd at Electronic Tuesdays along with Ind33p!

Having patiently waited for the Denver debut of Requake for well over 5 years now, my excitement for this long awaited performance was truly immeasurable and indescribable. Requake are some of the artists that truly got me hooked on Dubstep and they’ve been a huge inspiration to me since I first discovered their sound. Hailing all they from Belgium, to see Requake perform in the United States was a true test of patience and I have Sub.mission to thank for this very special performance. Requake’s set began with a deeper, more minimal side of 140 and transitioned to the wobbly, bouncy style that we all know and love. Hands were high in the air and the roar from the crowd was immense as Requake’s next level track selection and flawless mixing abilities had the entire room on edge. Playing out to the Denver crowd and being well aware of the Sub.mission 9 year anniversary only a few days away, Requake’s set catered to bass music lovers of every spectrum and was one of the most well rounded performances that I have ever seen. The diversity in the set was remarkable and touched on several bases on the sound from a wide variety of styles from some of my favorite artists like Commodo*, Bukez Finezt, Skream, Mala, and many more. To finally hear tunes like Requake’s ‘Razzia’, & ‘Waterdrops’ live from the source was breathtaking and a relatively emotional experience that I will never forget. When it was all said and done, I can’t believe I finally got to cross ‘Requake’ off of the top of my list of ‘must-sees’!

As if the night wasn’t already stacked enough it was now time for the UK’s very own Badklaat to make his Denver return to annihilate the dance floor at Cervantes’ Other Side once again. Having seen Badklaat perform a handful of times in the past, I knew to fasten my dancing shoes and anticipate a rowdy and upbeat performance that would raise the energy in the room to unprecedented levels. Upon taking the stage, Badklaat spent zero time messing around and got straight to business. From his opening tune, all the way to the end of the set, he captured the entire crowd and didn’t let go until the very end. A series of inevitable mosphits broke out on multiple occasions as the audience couldn’t contain their energy and excitement. My favorite part of his set was when he threw down his dance floor destroyer ‘Head Crush’ into ‘Bare Knuckles’ and double -dropped them simultaneously. Those tunes have always been some of my favorites from Badklaat and he brought the heat like never before.

Closing out then night, Requake made his return to the stage to send us off with a bang in a massive back-to-back performance alongside Badklaat. To see them both take the stage as a true deadly-duo was a very special treat and the set they delivered was nothing short of legendary. The energy they brought to the stage was immense and the crowd couldn’t get enough. Kahn & Flowdan’s ‘Badman City’ along with Crowell & Bommer’s ‘Nah Nah VIP’ and Coki’s ‘Red Eye’ ignited the dance floor and we couldn’t get enough.
