2016 has been, without a doubt, one of the biggest years for Sub.mission and Denver Dubstep. We’ve had legends such as L-Wiz, Mala, Kahn & Neek, Gorgon Sound, Sir Spyro, Caspa & Rusko, Ganja White Night, Loefah, D Double E, Flava D and so many more that it’s going to take a completely separate article to talk about it all. Still, we have one month left in 2016 and it looks as if we are going to close this year out with a very serious line up. So whether you know or want to be in the know, sit back and get ready for this edition of “This Month In Bass”.
We start with the December edition of Electronic Tuesdays. Now that E Tuesday’s has moved to The Black Box permanently its only right that December is starting with the return of one of dubstep’s biggest and most influential players to flex the Basscouch system to its full potential. On December 6th we welcome back Wheel & Deal boss and all around bad man N-Type! This multi award winning DJ, producer and label head needs no introduction as he is one of the key players in the early days as one of Rinse FM’s longest standing dubstep DJ’s, having joined the station around ‘03-‘04 when the sound was still very much in its infancy. Joining him is long time Sub.mission Resident Caustik and local heavy hitter Max Mischief! Starting the night off in the November Electronic Tuesdays Winners round and competing for the title of “First Electronic Tuesdays Battle Winner @ The Black Box” are DJ’s DJ Synchronicity, Apparition & Nicky Boy Floyd. This is going to be a night of serious bass weight and a proper start to December E Tuesdays.

Next up on December 13th we have the return of London-based dubstep boss Alex Crawford, better known to the world as 'The Others'. If you’re unfamiliar with The Others, he is a multi-faceted DJ & Producer that has helped shape the realm of underground dubstep for the last decade. Having worked with big name labels like Tempa, Subway, NSD: Black Label, Ringo, Wheel & Deal, Boka, Sub Soldiers, Veri Lo and of course Dub Police; The Others has a signature sound that is ever evolving and constantly pushing the envelope of the dubstep sound and it is truly a pleasure to welcome him to The Black Box for the first time. Joining him on stage is Sub.mission resident Ind33p and local battle winner Vicix. This one is about to shake up Cap Hill proper!

Moving forward into week three we have the return of the internationally recognized ‘American Dubstep Ambassador' and 'Dubplate King'. On December 20th we have the return of Baltimore-based DJ and GourmetBeats label head Joe Nice! This man is a true figurehead of stateside dubstep and his influence on the scene is unquestionable as he is credited as being the first DJ to ever play Dubstep in the United States. Armed with an extensive collection of exclusive and unreleased material, Joe Nice delivers a breath-taking performance with so much energy and enthusiasm that he makes you feel as if you’re watching him play a set at home. He has become a true Denver favorite over the years and each time he comes back he leaves us wondering when, or if ever, the tunes he played will get released. Today, Joe Nice's imprint 'GourmetBeats' stands out as one of the most forward-thinking labels, showcasing some of the fiercest talent on the underground circuit. The history of Dubstep most definitely cannot be told without an honorable mention to Joe Nice and his continuous legacy. Joining him on stage and representing the Sub.mission talent agency are West-Coast based rude boy Saule (GourmetBeats) and Salt Lake City's very own Durandal (FKOF). This will definitely be one of the biggest nights of the month so don’t sleep on it.

Closing out the final Electronic Tuesdays in 2016 we have the return of another major influence in the dubstep sound. On December 27th we have the head of Kapsize Records and Bristol-based originator Joker. This man has produced some of the most iconic tunes in the history of dubstep such as ‘Tron’, 'Purple City’, 'Midnight' & many more and we can’t wait to hear him rinse out some of these classics, as well as some new material, on the Basscouch system. We couldn’t think of a better way to finish of the 2016 edition of Electronic Tuesdays. Joining him on stage are Sub.mission resident Subliminal and battle winner Kial.

We finish off the year with a double headliner that is sure to rattle The Black Box to its core. On New Year’s Eve we welcome TRUTH & The Widdler back to Denver to close out this amazing year of music at The Black Box. It’s no secret that TRUTH and The Widdler are Denver favorites. We’ve had them both out this year for a couple of pretty epic nights and this New Year’s will be no different as these two low end power houses will be flexing the Basscouch system to its fullest potential. Stepping up to the decks with a collective arsenal of tunes from Firepower, Mallabel, Tempa, DEEP MEDI and Dank N’ Dirty Dubz, as well as some unreleased material from themselves and other label mates; this is going to be a serious display sound system music and a proper way to end one year and begin another.

As we leave 2016 behind we can’t help but look back and reflect on all the big names and major events that have come and gone in the last year. From L-Wiz to Mala, Kahn & Neek twice to Caspa and Rusko @ Cervantes to the long awaited debut of Loefah and all the major changes that happened within the Denver bass music scene within the last year; it’s safe to say that we here in Denver are spoiled and we couldn’t be happier about it. With 2017 on the horizon we can only guess how insane things will be leading up to the Sub.mission 10yr in April, however let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Instead let’s enjoy the moment and finish 2016 making as much noise as possible. With that in mind make sure to get all your pre sales asap and we’ll see you on the dance floor.
