After a terrific start to the month with J:Kenzo’s outing at Electronic Tuesdays, Denver welcomes back another UK dubstep act in the form of the versatile duo, Genetix. While you may have caught these two throw down naughty beats at Beta in the past, their Cervantes showing is set to contain more of their deep material. As opposed to their ‘tear-out’ style which focuses more on epic machine noises, their deep selections cater to the dungeon vibes.
Sporting a style similar to artists such as Biome & Distance, they have been able to find themselves a unique sound amidst the scene. Finding a sweet spot with techy-rollers bursting with energy, Genetix tunes feature a distinct sound characterized by swirling alien cries and growls. As distorted reeses stretch the mind across the room, relentless percussion keeps the feet moving and the skank flowing. Their deep material has been very well received by the scene, with DJ support from the likes of Youngsta, N-Type, & J:Kenzo.
Personally, Genetix was some of the first deeper dubstep that caught my ear. Their 2012 GetDarker mix will always rank as a personal favorite, as the aggression and energy so perfectly bridges the gap between tear-out and minimal dubstep. Their commitment to their work is evident, haven returned to GetDarker numerous times with a fresh collection of dubplates that display artistic growth and terrific attention to detail. With such a versatile catalog of tunes covering various facets of both dubstep and drum and bass, it is clear these two Bournemouth lads have a genuine passion for energetic, no nonsense bass music - which is probably the perfect way to describe the music taste of the Electronic Tuesdays’ crew. If you are a fan of any form of dubstep, odds are that this Genetix set will wet your whistle in the most evil way possible.
