Denver’s favorite Tuesday tradition continues in May with a month of lineups celebrating dubstep’s past, present, and future. May’s Electronic Tuesdays feature renowned artists and labels from across the globe. Here’s your guide to the stacked month ahead. Pre-sale tickets for all events are available via The Black Box website.
5/8: Deep Dark & Dangerous Takeover with Truth, Khiva, and Sectra
The Deep Dark & Dangerous squad returns on May 8th for the next installment of their quarterly label showcase at The Black Box. This time, the revolutionary collective is represented by label bosses Truth themselves - the explosive dubstep innovators beg no further introduction. DDD producer and selectress Khiva also makes her Denver debut. Check out her mix for the label below.
Known for his jagged, convention-toppling take on dubstep, newly appointed local and DDD releasee Sectra rounds up the lineup. This uniquely textured night promises a peek into dubstep’s fast approaching future.
5/15 Crucial Recordings 3 Year Anniversary with Sleeper, Foamplate, Mesck, Kali, and Gawd
Crucial Recordings touches down in Denver for their first Black Box takeover in celebration of the label’s third anniversary. In three short years, through 17 EP’s, Crucial has twisted dubstep’s trajectory in a vibrant and irrevocable fashion. Headed by genre figurehead and Denver favorite Sleeper, Crucial is largely to credit for the genre’s refreshed imagination and penchant for rule-breaking (not to mention today’s fascination with triplets).
Known for his releases on System Music as well as Crucial, Foamplate will make his much anticipated Denver debut, alongside Sleeper, Mesck, Kali, and Gawd.
5/22: Infernal Sounds with Mantra, Caustik, and eelko
DJs, record collectors, and dubstep obsessors - this one’s for you. The Infernal Sounds showcase at Electronic Tuesdays is a very special treat for the true heads. Infernal Sounds is universally hailed as one of the genre’s most iconic labels and promotional platforms. The outlet is defined by its consistently coveted releases from artists like Saule, Darkimh, Causa, Shu, and many more. Label boss Mantra will grace the decks with his presumably bottomless collection of unreleased tracks and exclusives, as well as Infernal Sounds classics. If your most treasured moments in the dance are those spent skanking to tunes you’ve never heard before, this is the night you’ve been waiting for. Tomorrow’s bangers beckon.
5/29: Biome, Max Mischief, and ETHER
Biome is yet another international name that needs little introduction. Boasting releases on labels from Deep Heads to Macabre Unit to Subaltern to Kaizen and so many more, Biome is among dance music’s most diverse innovators. His tracks range from heavy, to serene, to downright disturbing, and often interrupting the 140 template. In fact, Biome is known beyond dubstep for his dark, disjointed techno and other experimental styles. It’s impossible to predict where any set from Biome might lead, but it is always one hell of a journey.
