Chad Dubz
Chad Dubz is a third-wave dubstep veteran and current leader of the sound. The head of Foundation Audio demonstrates his ear for forward-thinking beats in his original productions, as well as through ultra-exclusive DJ selection and astute label curation. Chad Dubz is a modern face of dubstep’s tradition and an emerging figurehead for its future directions.
Jakes
As a godfather of the genre’s heaviest offshoots, Jakes is among the most universally revered artists within dubstep’s split-personality scene. His critical role in the evolution of bass music is signified by his seminal label H.EN.C.H. Recordings, as well as the producers’ own touch for crafting demonstrably timeless tracks. Jakes is an enduring crowd favorite, and his musical presence stands central to today’s dubstep movement.
With support from the likes of Bassnectar, Denver breakout artist Laika Beats is already reaching ears all over the world. His energetic brand of hybrid “post-genre” bass music draws influences from hip-hop, dubstep, future bass, and more.
The European trio made of producers Feonix and Na-kika and vocalist Simetra is well-known in the realm of dubstep for the distinct artistic character of their dark, haunting beats. Tunes from the Uprise Audio/Deep Dark and Dangerous sweethearts are ubiquitous in the dance and in DJ sets worldwide. Stay locked to LSN’s regular podcast and watch out for the Control pt.2 EP later this year.
As a forefather of dubstep and constant genre-obscuring bass music innovator, Pinch requires little introduction in any scene. Today, Pinch’s DJ sets and productions are ever-evolving, drawing elements from across the dance music spectrum to blur the boundary between dubstep and techno. His label, Tectonic Recordings, is set for its 100th release this month.
Originally known for his take on dubstep’s heavier incarnations, Minnesota artist MiKrodot has recently taken a turn toward the deep end, with impressive results. With releases on labels like KeepDeep and Abysmal Entities, MiKrodot is certainly a name to keep an eye on in the future.
Hailing from Vancouver, BC Perkulat0r’s contagious beats and rich, colorful soundscapes have made an impact on the US scene and beyond. As another representative of America’s affinity for experimental, hybrid bass music, expect to encounter the sounds of Perkulat0r at shows and festival sets anywhere you go.
Sgt. Pokes
Immediately recognizable as the literal voice of dubstep, Sgt Pokes is remembered to have narrated the genre’s history. The Croydub founder and official MC for Deep Medi & Swamp 81 continues to man the mic for the most prolific and essential sound system parties across the globe. An ambassador of dubstep’s past, Sgt Pokes’ irreplicable live energy also channels his earnest enthusiasm for bass music’s most cutting edge.
