AJ Tracey has fully embraced the music game that he's quietly been warming up for since he started rhyming at just six-years-old. Following in the footsteps of his Trinidadian rapper father who once had a No.1 video on MTV and his Welsh mother, who used to play jungle and NWA on pirate radio stations, he takes his craft seriously while dropping Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh references into his bars. Keeping up with his south London mates Elf Kid and Novelist, with a summer of festivals ahead of him and a mouth full of gold, AJ is dropping spirit bomb after spirit bomb.
AJ started making waves in the pirate radio scene in 2014 and has since stopped at nothing to bring a raw and unadulterated sound to the masses. Whether it’s sets on Rinse alongside his crew, MTP (My Team Paid), street singles with rising talents like Santan Dave and Reeko Squeeze, or collaborations with big names like Gorgon City,Tinchy Stryder and P Money, over recent years, AJ has proven himself to be one to watch.
He has just dropped a brand new solo single, Leave Me Alone, along with a video that takes us from the wet pavements, bus stops and corner shops of his West London neighborhood, Ladbroke Grove, to the sweaty confines of a packed out festival tent where the crowd rap along to his every word.
AJ has had his track “Naila” chosen by the U.K.'s BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac as her first Free Music Monday download. “Naila” is taken from hisAlex Moran EP—a five track free download which features Jammz and Merky ACE, two of the best MCs in London. In one freestyle alone you can expect to hear AJ charismatically hype talk, use different flows, and hold a skippy chorus—which currently seems to be the formula to breaking down mainstream barriers.
Aj Tracey has been noted as THE grime emcee to watch on 2016. We are honored to bring him to Denver for his debut and look forward to what this badman has to offer the future of a genre we never thought would make its way to America. Make sure to check him out this week at Electronic Tuesdays at Cervantes Other Side.
