An especially exciting month of Electronic Tuesdays is upon us, and Denver is in for more than one treat. This five-Tuesday July features four Denver debuts alone. Read on to get to know this month’s Electronic Tuesdays headliners.
7/3: Innamind Recordings Showcase ft. Headland, Ago, Karma, & Kursk
Innamind Recordings, headed by Kursk, stands today as an indisputable staple of dubstep’s contemporary canon. Conceived in 2012, Innamind quickly emerged as one of the genre’s most universally beloved labels. With releases from artists like LAS, Quest, Gantz, and Epoch (as well as E-Tuesdays performers Headland, Ago, and Karma), the label’s catalogue defines “proper dubstep” for the genre’s current generation.
As producers, each artist on the bill possesses his own subtle, yet distinctive flair: Karma is known for preserving the “dub” in dubstep through his twisted references to roots music; Ago’s touch for conventional composition brings a unique flavor to the dance floor - but the main thrill of this event is in not truly knowing what we’re in for. With four dubplate-laden DJs on decks, and the Denver debuts of both Ago and Headland, we can only reasonably expect to hear a lot of crazy music that’s never touched our ears before. One thing is certain: This Tuesday night, the dance floor will be packed.
It’s been a long while since TMSV has played in Denver. Known to dubstep for his EPs on Artikal Music, the artist has since been featured on labels like Perfect Records and Cosmic Bridge with releases that skew towards faster BPMs. A multi-genre talent, TMSV bridges the contentious divide between dubstep and drum and bass in both his mixes and productions. The sophisticated musician has also revealed a conscientious & well-informed personal perspective on bass music and the surrounding scene as co-host for the discussion-based WIP Podcast. TMSV dictates a purposeful presence in the realm of underground bass music, and he is sure to live up to it on the decks.
7/17: Slug Wife Takeover ft. KLO, Reso, & Kursa (Shambahala Pre-Party)
Electronic Tuesdays hosts Denver’s official Shambahala pre-party on the 17th. The Slug Wife collective takes over The Black Box for this very special triple-occasion. As if that’s not exciting enough, KLO and Reso will be joined by Kursa for yet another epochal Denver debut. Tickets for this event will fly, so snag yours now.
A rare lineup if there ever is one, Vivek and Hebbe join forces for a night engineered to make up for everything we miss out on as dubstep fans living in America. As the founder of the UK’s iconic System night and label of the same name, Vivek is a prophet for the sanctity of sub-frequencies. His approach to production DJ selection, and curation celebrates proper sound systems and the supernatural powers they bestow. If you’re not familiar with Vivek’s music or the System imprint, there’s only one way to get acquainted: this isn’t music you can listen to on laptop speakers. If you don’t know, you’ll only find out in the dance.
Hebbe also makes his Denver debut tonight. The Dutch producer has recently exploded into the global scene with massive releases on labels like Duploc, Artikal Music, and Crucial Recordings. He’s among the most frequently requested dubstep artists to perform at The Black Box. We can’t wait to find out what the artist can do in the dance.
July concludes with the return of Babylon System. Formed in 2006, the pioneering partnership between California OGs Roommate and No Thing is among the earliest cornerstones of the American dubstep scene. The duo’s aggressive, West Coast-influenced rendition of the UK dubstep sound set the mold for the style that continues to characterize the country’s role in the genre’s global evolution.
Babylon System makes their appearance in observance of their recent vinyl release on Heavy Traffic Recordings, designating the duo as members of a small and shrinking club of genre forefathers who remain active today. The event is a precious opportunity to glimpse the timeline of U.S. dubstep in its totality.
