Grime, is a genre of music that emerged in East London in the early 2000s. It is primarily a development of UK garage, jungle and even dubstep. Many have had their hand in the foundation of this genre and over time helped it to be a sound that defines the UK. One very influential dj/producer has been putting in work for time and is one of the major players in pushing the culture; this is none other than the one called Sir Spyro. As a regular listener during the early years of Rinse FM, Terror Danjah and Slimzee were some of Spyro’s influences into the world of Grime. Producing his own tracks and collabs with other heavyweight producers in the scene, Spyro landed a radio gig with the influential Rinse FM in 2005 and has been breaking new artist and anthems ever since.
Grime in its early years did not have the respect that it commands now. Like most “outside the norm” styles of music, it took the hard work and dedication of numerous producers and mc’s to make the scene what it is today. With his position at Rinse, Sir Spyro gives London, UK, and the world a place to hear the latest and greatest in Grime every Sunday. Showcasing his work as well, Sir Spyro has tons of tracks bearing his name. Released in 2005, Sir Spyro did a remix of Kamikaze’s Ghetto Kyote

Joining the group known as Ruff Squad in 2011, Sir Spyro released an E.P. with group mate D.O.K entitled Dragon Punch. Following up with The Night Shift EP released in 2012, this tune shows his progression in grime as he teams up with Newham General, Footsie

With his role in the scene #TheGrimeShow on Rinse FM has been go to spot for most, if not all, Grime mc’s. Building this connection saw 2013 as the year Sounds Of The Sir Ep was dropped. With 7 tracks and bars from mc’s such as JME, Alahna, Lusion, & Rapid, this EP is deffo one of my faves with Dead being the dopest!

As this is a London sound that has spread across the world, I’m quite gassed for this debut. For me Grime encompasses all the styles of Sound System Culture I fell in love with in High School and have grown to learn and respect over the last few years. NYC is the only other leg of this US debut tour, so you should be front and center for this week’s Electronic Tuesdays as we welcome The Sounds Of The Sir, Sir Spyro that is. We have Sub.mission resident and longtime supporter of Grime Subliminal on support and the up & coming talent know as Siren to close the night. Plenty of Grime and plenty of Dubstep to keep you skankin all night long so don’t miss out. Sub.mission is determined to move you through sound not hype and this week we move you through Grime.
