August is the hottest month of the summer this year. Maybe not in terms of weather but the amount of fire coming through Denver this month is going to have every thermometer in town in the red. From the ridiculous amount of talent coming through Electronic Tuesday's to the Shambala Pre-Party to the dubstep royalty take over at Cervantes, Sub.mission is packing quite the punch this August. So whether you already know or want to be in the know sit back and get ready for this edition of This Month in Bass.
We start off the late summer edition Electronic Tuesdays on August 2nd with a very special performance by Colorado’s own Future Simple Project, comprised of Miraja & Mikey Fisher of the Family Moons Artist Collective. Together they blend a visual sound scape melodically blended with complex rhythms and paralyzing bass lines. Their style is a healthy mix of glitchy sounds and flairs of dub in the 140 tempo. They are considered among the few that have played almost every Sonic Bloom to date and they are one of the originators representing the dubstep sound in Colorado. Joining them is Sub.mission resident Trisicloplox and D.CO.DUB bad man Gumshoe! Make sure you get there early because starting off the night we have the July E Tuesday Battle winners round with SeamzLegit, Sin7 and OldGold. Representing St. Louis, Denver and Houston respectively, this is without a doubt going to be one of the best winners round battles of the year. Don’t miss it.
Next up on August 9th we have the return of the mighty Ganja White Night! This duo is one of dubstep’s biggest and most respected acts in the game. During the past decade they have traveled many countries around the globe. They have taken a new creative direction in music with elements of hip-hop, dub, breaks and so much more and this year they have released an eleven track album entitled “Mr. Wobble” and are coming off massive performances at festivals such as Infrasound, Mysteryland and Bass Landing. With that in mind we are 100% sure that the duo are about to bring The Other Side to its knees with their crippling synths and basslines. Sharing the stage with them on this very special occasion we also have performances from WrekDubz, Sektah b2b Dubwol, and bad man Subliminal will be closing out the night!
Afterwards, on August 16th, hailing all the way from Croydon, we have the one and only Plastician! Very few dubstep artists are among the few to have the true level of impact that Plastician has reached over the years. With influences stemming from Garage, Grime, & Techno, Plastician is multi-faceted talents whose bass heavy beats cross and mix sounds from multiple genres with perfection. Widely known for his shows on and streams on Rinse FM streams, he showcases both classic and fresh new material as well as juicy cuts from his own Terrorhytm Records. In short, Plastician is a one of the elite originators of the dubstep sound and his sets are definitely not to be missed. He will hit the stage alongside Sub.mission residents Caustik & Bean!
Next up on August 23rd we have a very special Electronic Tuesdays debut. With big releases Saturate records, Seclusiasis, Sleeveless Records, and more, Sean McCarthy, aka ‘Pleasure’, is one of the few that can walk into any event and rock a party. His fusion of sounds, which cross the entire spectrum of bass music, make up his forward-thinking approach to the sound. It’s both easy on the ear and draws in electronic music lovers from every spectrum! Joining him is live electronic group out of Philadelphia, Wax Future. The group is made up of Connor Hansell (synths & production), Keith Wadsworth (lead guitar & synthesizer), and Gralin Hughes (live digital art). They’ve had their most notable live performances playing alongside alongside of heavy hitting electronic groups such as Papadosio and Eoto, MiTiS, Mat Zo, Haywyre, Random Rab, and Tauk. Their 2nd EP "Keep the Memories" dropped on August 28th via Funkadelphia Recordings. Also on the bill is Colorado Springs bad man and Sub.mission resident Ind33p!
Finishing off this edition of Electronic Tuesdays, on August 30th we have the return of Badklaat! This dubstep producer out of Gloucester UK has been smashing up every dance hall he’s set foot in over the last year and he’s making his return to Denver with no intentions of holding back on the Denver massive. Joining him on stage, representing Manhattan, NYC is Jonah Freed and Sub.mission residents CurlyOne, Aowl & Swayd. Make sure you stretch before coming out on this night because we promise that you will be headbanging the night away.
Make sure you get there early to catch the weekly E Tuesday DJ battles! This month we have locals Hyper Liquid Soul, DiS_1, Killa Nilla, Illadope, Emmunize, Envix, CPTN, Vicix, DropTalk, Elemental Hero, Jeebz & Buttah all going head to head for a slot in the August winners round next month! These guys are all seriously talented so you know these battles are going to carry some top notch performances. We cant wait!
Moving forward we have the first of TWO massive nights of bass music in Colorado. On August 4th Sub.mission and Cervantes Present the Shambhala Music Festival warm Up with TRUTH, Om Unit & Shades (Alix Perez & Eprom) . TRUTH is the duo from New Zealand that are revered as sonic architects of music with an emotional melodies and heavy subwoofer rupturing basslines. Since their inception several years ago, Truth (Andre Fernandez and Tristan Roake) have, as both top-notch sound designers and DJs, cut through the international dubstep scene flawlessly. It is an honor to have them both back on stage at Cervantes. Joining them is producer and DJ Jim Coles, aka Om Unit. He has been a significant pioneering presence in electronic music for the past five years. Following an influential decade in the global hip-hop underground, Coles took on the moniker of Om Unit in the late 2000s and began to travel across genres and scenes in search of sonic frequencies that he felt were cross-bred and re-imagined and it is truly an honor to have him back in Denver once again! Also on the bill is the duo SHADES comprised of Alix Perez & Eprom. SHADES exemplifies a sound that has distorted grooves, an array of sub frequencies and hard yet graceful composition. The debut self-titled EP (released on Alpha Pup) is truly a unique and artistic release and if you missed them @ The Fusion Factory for Final Fridays last year now is your chance to make up for it. Joining these headliners on stage are Recon Drum & Bass boss Despise and Sub.mission resident Ind33p! Make sure your lighters are full for this one because we're sure you're going have them out all night.

The second of these the two MASSIVE one off events is the return of a duo that many regard as dubstep royalty. On August 13th the original dubstep rude boys Caspa & Rusko return to Cervantes for an intimate night of proper dubstep. In 2007, dubstep was a far cry from the sound we know and love today. Among the DJ’s and producers best encapsulating the feel of the era were Caspa and Rusko. Their FabricLive37 mix is regarded as one of the mixes that best represents the dubstep sound and it is also the first all dubstep edition of the venerated FabricLive Mix Series. Its release marked the influential step for the emerging genre as a global phenomenon. Now, after 7 years of separation, the two “cockney thugs” have reunited on stage with one goal, returning to the roots of their production and bringing back the “proper sound” to the masses. Joining them are Subliminal, Bean & Thanom going in on a back to back set as well as Old School Sub.mission residents Dayquill, RumbleJunkie and ServOne making their return to the stage for a massive back to back reunions set that is sure to bring out the vibes of years past. It was the Dub Police crew who first coined the phrase "Denver is Dubstep" back in 2010 and needless to say things have not changed or slowed down since. For those of you that have been around long enough to recall the Sub.mission x Dub Police parties at Cervantes, you already know that this event holds a very special place in every Denver Dubstepper’s heart and means more to this city than anywhere in the world. This is the bass capitol and we are dubstep. Together, Sub.mission and Dub Police made and will continue to make history in the Mile High City. Join us for a night that we guarantee you will remember for the rest of your life.
We have been waiting for August for quite some time. Between the weekly events and the one off events this month, August is going to be a month that will be remembered for years to come. If you haven’t acquired tickets to any of these events please do so ASAP! With stacked line ups like this it’s safe to say that if you don’t act now you might be stuck outside of Cervantes wishing you’d done so. After all this is Denver and we go hard ;) We’ll see you in the dance.
