EYEDIOLA PHOTOGRAPHYSo far this Summer, Electronic Tuesdays has played host to a massive number of groundbreaking performances featuring some of the finest names in bass music. This past Tuesday night I found my home on the dance floor once again at my favorite weekly showcase presented by Sub.mission for a headlining performance from the one and only Silkie! I was initially exposed to the sound of Silkie at the Sub.mission 5 year anniversary party and ever since that appearance the London-based DJ/Producer has always stood out as a personal favorite in my books. On Tuesday night we all got to experience the sound and emotion of one of the most innovative and forward thinking talents pushing the boundaries of bass music in the intimacy of Cervantes’ Other Side and the energy was unlike anything I had ever seen before.
Not only was international super star Silkie in the building to perform a headling set, but there was also a stacked roster of some of the sickest local talent live in the mix as well. The night began with the weekly DJ Battles in which Myxed Up, Ill Kid, & Astra took the stage to battle it out and set the vibe early in the night. I must say that out of all the battles that I have witnessed so far, this past Tuesday night’s was one of the best that I have seen. Myxed up took the stage first and unleashed some serious bass weight with an arsenal of original tunes from himself as well as a grip of forthcoming bangers from the Milc collective. Myxed Up is always a pleasure to see perform and his evolution in Colorado’s music scene throughout the years is truly remarkable. Ill Kid delivered a stunning set that was primarly comprised of old-school dubstep tunes from the early days he proved that he is a true force to be reckoned with behind the decks. Flawlessly mixing tunes from pioneers such as Loefah & L-Wiz, Ill Kid made a statement with his performance and kicked a proper lesson in original dubstep sound. Astra took the stage as the final battler of the night and brought the heat like never before. Witnessing 2 massive performances from the battlers before him, Astra stepped up to the plate and amplified the energy in the room to close out this week’s battle with a bang and be crowned this week’s battle winner! Astra’s set was very well-rounded and showcased a variety of spectrums that got the early Tuesday crowd moving their feet and nodding their heads in approval to the sound of the beat. With tunes ranging from Coki’s classic ‘Red Eye’ all the way to Tipper’s ‘Peripherals’ Astra demonstrated his talents and walked away as the winner in one of the closest and best battles that we have seen so far at Electronic Tuesdays. Congrats to Astra!

EYEDIOLA PHOTOGRAPHYFollowing the opening DJ Battles it was time for Colorado’s very own Trisicloplox to take the stage and break us off with his deep and obscure signature sound. In case you haven’t been keeping up with the local scene lately, you should know that Trisicloplox has been making some serious waves on both a local and international scale and the DJ/Producer stays on his grind when it comes to his performances and delivering new and exclusive material to the masses. In a day in age where the club scene is oversaturated with DJ’s lacking originality and innovation, Trisicloplox is a breath of fresh air and embodies true an artist with a constant creative output in his productions and remarkable live sets. No two Trisicloplox sets are ever the same and you can always expect something new and fresh when you see the name ‘Trisicloplox’ on a bill. On Tuesday night the selector spent zero time getting down to business and delivered my personal favorite set that I have seen from him so far. There is a certain spine tingling and dungeon-like weirdness that Trisicloplox evokes on audiences and I can’t get enough of it. Though his name might pose a challenge and be tricky to pronounce, his bass heavy sound speaks for itself and this is an artist you definitely want to keep tabs on!

EYEDIOLA PHOTOGRAPHYNext up it was time for the one like Gumshoe to grace the decks and play the role of the primary support for UK legend Silkie. No stranger to Cervantes’ Other Side, Gumshoe is an act that I have seen perform many times throughout the years and I couldn’t picture a better talent to hold it down on the local support for this special occasion. Gumshoe is an act that is known to get crowds vibing to his sound with a flavor that is reminiscient of the classic UK style. With well over a decade of experience slaying crowds as a DJ in solo performances and alongside “A.D.D” as bass music duo ‘D.CO.DuB’, Gumshoe’s supreme mixing abilities, unmatched track selection, and vast musical knowledge combine to make him one of the rawest talents on the Colorado scene today.

EYEDIOLA PHOTOGRAPHYAs the dance floor grew in numbers and the crowd thickened, a sea of bass music enthusiasts gathered and eagerly welcomed the man of the hour, Silkie in his highly awaited Denver return. Coming fresh off a performance in Steamboat, Colorado only a few days before to his Electronic Tuesdays appearance, I was able to catch up with Silkie before his set and he expressed how happy and excited he was to be back in Denver on this very special night. Every time that Silkie performs in Denver he delivers sets that are northing short of legendary and this past Tuesday night was no exception. Prior to Silkie’s set on Tuesday, I had spent the majority of my week non-stop listening to Silkie’s fresh new album ‘Fractals’ that had just been released on Anarchostar Records and was beyond thrilled to see the don himself rinse out some of these tunes in the intimacy on Cervantes’ Other Side. I consider the album to be a complete masterpiece and truly embodies the forward-thinking and revolutionary artist that Silkie is widely recognized for.

EYEDIOLA PHOTOGRAPHY As soon as he took the stage, the crowd erupted with smiles and hands waving high in the air to welcome back the legend himself. Possesing an unprecedented stage presence overflowing with energy and eplosiveness, the jazzy upbeat sound of Silkie filled the room and had the Tuesday crowd bouncing from beginning to end! The entire set was packed with the signature soulful melodies that have cemented Silkie as one of the leading forces on the international scale of bass music and demonstrate how Silkie continuously strives to keep his experimental style both new and fresh for audiences all around the globe. The switch in tempo that Silkie brings forth is one of a kind and must be experienced first hand to be truly understood. All-in-all this was one of my personal favorite performances that I have ever seen as the tunes and the vibe were un-parallel.

To say that we are spoiled in Denver would be a complete understatement. The last 3 installments of Electronic Tuesdays have featured headlining performances from international stars such as Swindle, Flava D, and most recently, Silkie. The entire month of August has been packed with some of the sickest talent and I couldn’t ask for a better present from Sub.mission during my birthday month.
