From the moment that I had initially found out that Truth was going to be performing a headlining set at Electronic Tuesdays, my calendar had been marked with great anticipation. Truth have always been at the top of my list when it comes to producers/DJ’s in the realm of underground bass music and this past Tuesday night Truth continued to solidify themselves as some of my personal favorites. One of my favorite parts about the weekly Electronic Tuesdays series is that the event showcases some of the top talent throughout the international, nationwide, and local scale as well. From beginning to end, the entire night’s lineup was stacked with serious talent and made for one of the best E-Tuesdays of the summer.
The night began at 8:30pm as local DJ’s Mamuth, Hard Chorus, & Dis_1 took to the stage to face off in this week’s battles. Each artist made the most out of their 30 minute time slots to showcase their skills and abilities to get the crowd moving and prove that they have what it takes to advance to the next round of the DJ battles and square up against the fellow battle winners of the month of September. After a heated battle among the three selectors, Dis_1 beat out the competition with his minimal dubstep sound and was crowned this week’s winner. Be on the lookout for Dis_1 and catch him live in the mix at the September winners showcase taking place next month!

Following the opening DJ battles, it was time for the one like Thanom to take the decks and kick things up a notch. Over the years I have seen Thanom perform in a variety of settings ranging from Electronic Tuesdays sets, Sub.mission warehouse parties and even Bass Invasion in the mountains last year, and Sonic Bloom to only name a few. Regardless of the occasion, Thanom consistently steps up to the plate and delivers timeless performances each and every time. No stranger to Cervantes’ Other Side, Thanom made his Electronic Tuesdays return and held it down on the primary support slot for headliner Truth and he set the tone flawlessly. Blending a variety of original material as well as certified classic dubstep tunes into an hour’s worth of bass heavy madness. Not only is Thanom a force to be reckoned with behind the decks, but he is also a top-notch producer and his sound is low end unmistakable. If you haven’t been keeping tabs on Thanom, be sure to keep it locked because he is one of the sickest talents to emerge from the Denver dubstep scene and is gaining momentum with no sign of slowing down.

Now that the Tuesday crowd had been properly warmed up by Thanom’s performance, it was time for the highly anticipated return of New Zealand’s very own TRUTH to take the stage for a massive 2 hour headlining performance. Truth is an internationally acclaimed dubstep duo comprised of 2 members known as Dre & Tristan and when they join forces, they are unstoppable. On Tuesday night Tristan held down the stage in a solo performance and it was a special treat to see him throw down in the Mile High City once again! Coming in fresh off a series of performances at the world renowned Outlook Festival in Croatia, Tristan came ready to get Deep, Dark, & Dangerous at Cervantes’ Other Side and kicked proper lesson in true underground dubstep sound. As soon as he got behind the decks, he spent zero time getting down to business and unleashing some serious bass weight that rumbled the dance floor and erupted the crowd. Truth have always stood out for their profound musical variety and on Tuesday night we got to experience a diverse set packed with classic old-school tunes along with new aged dance floor bangers. Some of my favorite tracks that were rinsed in Truth’s set include their iconic tunes ‘The Devil’s Hands’ and ‘Fatman VIP’ along with timeless classics like Skream’s ‘Midnight Request Line’ and ‘Night’ by Benga & Coki. The crowd appreciation was at an all time high and it was amazing to see a fully engaged audience full of both new and familiar faces gathered on the dance floor to surrender their soul to authentic bass music. There are three things that can not be long hidden, the sun, the moon, and the TRUTH.

Following up a 2 hour set from Truth and keeping the crowd engaged until the end of the night can seem like a daunting task for most DJ’s. However, this past Tuesday night the one like Durandal made his Denver debut hailing form Salt Lake City to close out the night with a bang and keep the vibe going ‘til the end. Boasting massive releases on FatKidOnFire, Unified Audio, and more, Durandal’s tunes are reminiscent of the true underground dungeon style and were the perfect follow-up to Truth’s set. Possessing a stage presence that is calm, cool, and collected, Durandal stepped up to the decks and flexed the sound system at Cervantes’ Other Side to close out the night and make a lasting and memorable impression in his Denver debut. Big ups to Durandal!
