The weekend is upon us and it is finally the weekend we’ve been waiting a year for. I’m talking, of course, about BASS INVASION; One of Sub.mission’s most anticipated events of the year. Since its inception in 2009, Sub.mission's Bass Invasion has brought out legendary bass music heavy weights such as Mary Anne Hobbs, Caspa, Skream, Mala, Downlink, D-Bridge, Cotti, Distance and TRUTH just to name a few. Each year has been special and that being said, no two years have been the same. We’ve taken over entire city blocks, venues and even invaded a little spot in the mountains. This year we take Bass Invasion back to dubstep’s roots with a good old fashioned warehouse party. With two nights of proper sound, pure vibes and tons of bass education for both listeners old and new; this year’s edition of Bass Invasion is sure to be one of, if not the best celebration of sound system culture yet.



We start off “Night One” with a resident tag session featuring the likes of rude selectors Subliminal, Caustik, CurlyOne and Dillard all doing a back to back set. No doubt you’ve seen at least one of these heavy hitting residents before, you may have even seen a couple of them go back to back as well but I guarantee that you’ve never seen all four on the decks at once. If there was a reason to show up and be part of the early crew this would definitely be it. All four men are very talented and posses a unique set of DJ skills & track selections that will get the weekend started off properly and we wouldn’t want it any other way.




Next up is bad man Mesck. If you’re unfamiliar with Mesck then you’re in for a very serious treat. He shook the mountains so hard last year that it was obvious he would be back to rattle the Fusion Factory to its core for us. Hailing from Los Angeles, Mesck seems to have come out of nowhere and he’s done it with serious brute force. After having releases on labels such as Onset Audio and Deceast and getting support from major dubstep heads such as Youngtsa, J:Kenzo & Hatcha; big boss Distance selected Mesck to be Chestplate Records first international signing artist in which he released CHST032 Conquista/Collusion. His sound offers a cohesive voyage through energetic dynamics, rolling with hollowed out kick patterns, ominous underscoring and creating beats that deploy a heavy swing while utilizing easing momentums with more minimal percussion thus leaving plenty of space for a plethora of subtle sounds that take complete control of the atmosphere. His sound is truly sound system music and we’re overly excited to hear what he has to bring to play on the Void Acoustic system.



Continuing the vibe and hailing from Mons, Belgium we have the one and only rude duo Ganja White Night. Consisting of Erwan & BambY, Ganja White Night’s sound was born in 2007 and was influenced by music that is considered the roots of modern bass music; such as reggae, dub and hip-hop. They took that sound and flawlessly incorporated modern heavy bass line synthesis; creating a sound and style unique to them.  In 2009 they launched Subcarbon Records and signed artists such as Mc Xander, Bunzero, Glÿph, Don Fiasko &Simon. Their new album “Hybrid Distillery” breaks away from the traditional dubstep sound and applies their unique sound and style to other genres of electronic music. You can definitely expect to hear the dubstep tunes they love to play for Denver but be ready to experience their sound on another level as they are sure to switch it up and make heads spin throughout their set.



Finishing off “Night One”of Bass Invasion and feeding us proper bass weight mediation until the wee hours of the morning is none other than the heavy hitting massive duo Kaiju. Known simply as Jaimie & Paul, no one in the dubstep game designs and builds made-for-system music like these two. After having releases on labels such as Osiris Music, Lioncharge, and Ruffcut, gaining support from heavy hitters such as Mala, V.I.V.E.K., Youngsta & N-Type just to name a few and then winning "Best New Producers" at the 2013 DSF awards; they made an immense impact on the scene in a short time and have solidified their spot in the annals of dubstep history. They are now exclusively signed to the legendary dubstep label Deep Medi Musik and continue to design and push music that can only be played on a massive rig. Its rare to hear a dubplate from the duo unless they’re the ones rinsing it out. The fact that they keep their music in lock down ensures that their DJ appearances are special occasions. Kaiju is the definition of sound system music so prepare to be rocked to your very core in the best way possible.



Starting off “Night Two” of Bass Invasion we open with a bang as Mile High Club rude boys Swayd, AOWL & Sektah go back to back in what will be a very slamming performance. If you’ve never seen these three in tag team action then make sure you get to the Fusion Factory early on Saturday night for a high energy head banging time. I can personally say that every time I watch these three play, be it together or individually, I can help but lose myself on the dance floor.  They are sure to set the tone for what will be and epic night.



Following the opening three way tag we have the Denver debut of Le Lion. His bio says it all; he’s a lion with an afro that likes to create sounds that you’ve never heard before.  With releases on labels such as Styx Recordings, Bassclash Records,  Subquake Audio, The Pack Recordings and Old Ghost Records; his sound is wonky, heavy, melodic and full of nonstop energy that is sure to keep the dance bouncing and begging for more. If his latest mix, entitled “Gunfinger Music #2, is any kind of preview to what he has in store for the Void System then we are seriously about to be blown away.



Moving forward we have none other than one of Britstol’s finest, The Greys. He made his bones DJing for the singer Belle Humble, who sung the hit anthem "Cracks", but it wasn’t until he played at Melkweg, Amsterdam in March 2013 that he had his solo debut  and since then he has continued to spread across Europe and the globe with his inimitable mixing style and large collection of unreleased music all while gaining support from the likes of FuntCase, N-Type, Bar 9 and more plus getting airtime on Radio 1 and Kiss FM. He is continuously pushing the bass music sound, focusing on the fine tuned mixing of in key music with a big love for double drops. If you’ve never seen The Greys before then you should prepare yourself because he’s going to make your head spin.



Next up is the one like Sleeper. He is one of the leaders of dubstep’s creative revival and is widely regarded as one of the best dubstep producers in the world. After shifting his production focus from drum and bass to dubstep, the dubstsepping junglist became a regular at the DMZ and Sub Dub nights in Leeds. The first manifestation of Sleeper was endorsed by Distance and in 2011 he released “Zombies” on Chestplate; ushering in an era of dark techno inspired dubstep that was marked by its movie-quality sound design. Soon after he had releases on Artikal Music, Aquatic Lab and Osiris Music. In 2015 he is fusing his high end sound engineering skills with a more roots/dub approach and along with that he has founded his own label, Crucial Recordings, which has two releases from him and one from his first signed artist Foamplate. He is on his second North American tour, only this time he’s the headliner, so you know he’s going to make every stop a special one and Bass invasion is no different. I for one can’t wait to see what one of the best in the world has in store for Denver.



Closing out Bass Invasion is none other than the Baltimore bad man himself, Mr. Joe Nice. He is North America’s first and most respected dubstep DJ and is known the world over as the “Dubstep Ambassador”. Joe Nice started playing dubstep in the US in 2001 with the 2 Charming Crew and shortly after became a resident @ Sonar Baltimore.  After headlining local and national shows he co-founded the internet radio show Gourmet Beats, which was the first to feature dubstep in North America. In 2005 he Co-founded and was a resident @ DubwarNYC, Americas first dubstep night. He is the first American-based DJ to play on the London pirate radio station Rinse FM, the legendary DMZ bi-monthly bash and Forward. In July 2011, Joe Nice co-founded and was named a resident DJ at the new dubstep night in New York City, Reconstrvct, and in May 2012 he moved his monthly radio show from Gourmetbeats.com to the award-winning SubFM, where his GourmetBeats radio show can be heard on the second Tuesday of each month, 7pm - 9pm EST. This year he founded the GourmetBeats Label and has already had one release with many more coming in the very near future. He is the DJ of DJ’s and the undisputed dubplate king.  Joe Nice is one of, if not the main reason, that dubstep is in North America. He’s shared the stage and gone back to back with some of the biggest originators of the sound and Bass Invasion doesn’t end until he says so. I hope you’re all ready for a late and rowdy one because he’s about to seriously bring the heat.



Bass Invasion is a celebration of dubstep culture. It is a celebration of sound system culture and most of all it is an event that celebrates all spectrums of bass music. Expect to hear more than your fill of dubstep but keep your ears open, you never know what one of these guys will have up their sleeves to keep the crowd on their toes.  If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet then do so as soon as possible; it’s a limited capacity 21+ BYOB 420 friendly event.
