The anticipation going into last week’s Electronic Tuesdays was at an all time high as international dance music icon Mumdance would be making his 1st ever Denver appearance presented by Sub.mission. Prior to Tuesdays’s show I had been briefly following Mumdance throughout the years and to see him perform in the intimacy of Cervantes’ Other Side was going to be a very special treat! Without a doubt this is one of the biggest and rarest bookings that Electronic Tuesdays has seen so far and on Tuesday night we experienced a very special performance that served as the perfect warm-up for Sub.mission presents Bass Invasion coming up this weekend on September 25 & 26.
The night began at 8:00pm with the weekly DJ battles featuring some of the hottest talent from throughout the state. This week’s battlers showcased 4 local acts whose styles were primarily comprised of dubstep influences with a bit of electroswing/glitch hop as well. Selectors Samuel L Dabson, DJ Chris, CORD, & Gangsterish took to the stage and made the most out of their 30 minute time slots to get the crowd moving and demonstrate their skills and abilities behind the decks in hopes to advance to the September winners showcase. After a heated battle between the 4 of them, Gangsterish ultimately won over the crowd with his funky and upbeat sound. Following the opening DJ Battles it was now time for Sub.mission resident Subliminal to take the decks and set the tone for the one like Mumdance. As I have mentioned before, Subliminal is one of my personal favorites on the Sub.mission roster of residents and to see him unleash his triple-deck madness is always a treat! Throwing down a set comprised of mainly UK Grime and classic Dubstep styles, Subliminal got the crowd moving and once again demonstrated his supreme mixing abilities and next-level track selection. Among the extensive list of tunes that Subliminal rinsed out on Tuesday, some of my favorite moments of his set were when he threw down Kromestar’s classic ‘Kalwanji’ along with Kahn’s ‘Over Deh So’. Subliminal constantly keeps his sets fresh and exciting and I can’t think of a better artist to play the direct support slot for Mumdance. Big ups to Subliminal!

Now that the crowd had been properly warmed up by Subliminal’s performance, it was time for international dance music icon MUMDANCE to take the stage in his 1st ever Denver appearance. Coming in fresh off of a massive performance at the 10 year anniversary of Symbiosis Festival at the Woodward Reservoir in Oakdale California. Going into Tuesdays night’s performance I was full of excitement and anticipation to see Mumdance grace the decks at Cervantes’ Other Side and make a true impact. Mumdance is an artist of many styles and backgrounds and I truly had no idea what to expect in regards to a live performance from the selector. All I knew is that I was going to be ready to dance and that I would likely never see a performance quite like this one ever again. Blending a variety of grime influenced aesthetics combined with upbeat house styles, Mumdance’s set was very unique and had the Tuesday crowd moving from beginning to end. Throughout the set the crowd experienced an ambient, yet progressive dance music style that was not limited to a single genre or bpm. Mumdance kept his performance fresh and exciting and proved why his is one of the leaders of the underground club music. He closed out his set with his dance floor banger ‘Take Time’ featuring Novelist and erupted the crowd into a frenzy of cheering voices and clapping hands.

After a night packed with wide ranging electronic music styles and a variety of genres, it was now time for veteran DJ and Sub.mission resident Caustik to take the stage and keep the vibe in the room flowing strong until the end. With nearly 2 decades of experience as a DJ under his belt, Caustik is undoubtedly one of the best and most well rounded artists on the Sub.mission roster of residents and he brings the heat each and every time. Whether he is spinning Dubstep, Jungle, Drum & Bass, or Breakbeats, you can expect to dance your ass off any time you see the name ‘Caustik’ on a lineup. Catch Caustik spinning live in the mix this upcoming Friday night at Sub.mission presents Bass Invasion as he holds it down in a back-to-back performance with Subliminal, CurlyOne, & Dillard at 10:00pm to kick off the weekend!
