For the first Electronic Tuesday of October, Denver welcomes the US dubstep titan AxH for his Colorado debut. Hailing from Boston, MA, AxH emerged from a world of dark, raw jungle to bring his talents to the dubstep scene. After some solid releases with North American labels, his tribal weighty sound caught the ear of the mighty Youngsta and he became the first American signed to the infamous Tempa.
               
His outing at Cervantes is well-timed, as the release of his second EP on Tempa Numbskull creeps around the corner. With previews recently posted on Redeye, it is clear that AxH is back with a vengeance.  The release starts off with the familiar arpeggio bleeps and reverb-packed snares of the appropriately titled Numbskull. Gemtone follows suit with a playful bell riddim as complex layers of seagulls and low-end smash the ears. Concluding with a collab with fellow North American producer Gremlinz, Hacker is a shuffly, menacing beast that packs as much swing as it does attitude. And if his imminent release weren’t enough, the Boston native has been pumping out dubs that Youngsta has been rinsing to death on his weekly Minimal Mondays.
               
In his rise to prominence, AxH has served as a posterchild for minimal dubstep in America, being one of the first producers this side of the pond to make waves globally. As the music of labels such as Tempa, Deep Medi, Macabre Unit, etc grows more popular across the country, AxH finds a sound that so perfectly encompasses the appeal of the sound to the US. As all of his music possesses the ‘this is dubstep’ feel, his use of monstrous low-end, trippy percussion, and the occasional Biome-esque midrange appeals to a vast range of ears. Whether you are a 2006 head or a recent rave convert, there is something to be felt in his music. The long overdue debut of AxH is finally here; don’t sleep!
