The drop in temperatures and the changing colors of the leaves outside are a perfect indicator that the Fall season is in full effect and to accompany this shift, Sub.mission has brought forth massive lineups for their weekly Electronic Tuesdays installments. This past Tuesday night we welcomed the highly anticipated Chop City Tour featuring headlining performances from Shack D & Shiverz Da Butcher. Having witnessed Shiverz tear up the stage at last year’s Chop City Tour alongside Subfilktronik, I was anxiously awaiting the return of Da Butcher himself and couldn’t wait for the Denver debut of Shack D and on Tuesday night we surely weren’t disappointed. Ever since this show was announced, my calendar had been marked with massive excitement and Tuesday was definitely one for the books!
The night began at 8:30pm with the weekly DJ battles featuring 3 local acts that made the most out of their 30 minute time slots to showcase their skills in an attempt to win over the judges and advance to the next round of the competition. Selectors Mohntee, Bossilator, and Xkape took to the stage and battled it out in front of the early Cervantes’ crowd go get the night started. After a heated battle among the 3 acts, Mohntee went on ton snatch the victory in this week’s battle as his house/moombahton influenced sound was well received and had the crowd vibing from the very beginning.

Following the opening DJ Battles, it was now time for Sub.mission resident DJ Sektah to take the stage and really set the tone for the remainder of the night. Over the last few years that I have seen Sektah perform he has definitely become one of my favorite DJ’s on the roster of Sub.mission residents as his cutting-edge mixing skills and unprecedented track selection combine to deliver explosive performances each and every time. Regardless of the time slot that he is granted or the size of the crowd that he is performing in front of, Sektah consistently puts on top-notch sets and knows how to get the crowd moving. Among the massive array of tunes that he rinsed out on Tuesday night, bangers such as Benzmixer’s ‘Go Hard’, and Badklaat’s ‘Head Crush’ were among the crowd favorites and really amplified the energy in the room just in time for Shack D to take the decks. Be sure to keep tabs on the one like Sektah as he’s one of the sickest talents putting on throughout the Denver dubstep scene and beyond!

Now that the crowd had been properly warmed up by Sektah’s performance, it was now time for Shack D from Sub Concentrate Recordings/ Don’t Get It Twisted to make his Electronic Tuesdays debut and demonstrate what the Chop City Tour is all about! Upon taking the stage, the California-based DJ/Producer spent zero time messing around and got straight to business unleashing his low-end sound to reel in the crowd and slew listeners into a false sense of security before picking up the pace with his signature bouncy/wonky bass lines about midway through his set. Prior to Tuesday night’s performance, I had been a big fan of Shack D’s Impluse EP that was released on Coki’s label ‘Don’t Get It Twisted’ and it was a real treat to experience some of these tunes played out live and feel the vibration of the subwoofers rumbling the dance floor. His tunes have been rinsed by the legendary Digital Myztiks on some of the biggest platforms of underground bass music including Infrasound Music Festival and Born & Bred Festival and the young producer is gaining massive momentum on an international scale. Shack D made a statement in his Electronic Tuesdays debut and I sure hope to see him make a return to Denver sometime in the near future!

As the dance floor grew in numbers and bass heads gathered in front of the speakers, it was now the moment we had all been waiting for as Shiverz Da Butcher stepped up to the decks to kick things up a notch. Having seen Shiverz perform in the past, I knew to buckle up tight and brace myself for a performance that was going to keep me on edge and never let go. Over the years I’ve been a constant supporter of Shiverz’ ‘Monsters’ crew as well as an avid follower of his Get Darker streams and to see him perform live is incomparable. The energy and stage presence that Shiverz brings to the dance is unlike anything I have ever seen before and proves that he is a talent unlike any other. The Croydon based producer has been setting the standard for that hard-hitting dubstep that we know and love and he is a true don on the underground circuit that continues to inspire the upcoming generations in today’s scene. From the moment he took the stage, Shiverz came out swinging and demonstrated what the Chop City Tour is all about! Skull-crushing bass lines and plenty of bounce was unleashed on the Electronic Tuesdays crowd and he had us on our toes from beginning to end with hands waving high in the air and endless cheering from the audience. Aside from his extensive arsenal of new and exclusive material, Shiverz track selection tapped into dubstep classics such as DMZ’s ‘Anti War Dub’ and Swindle’s ‘Do The Jazz.’ These tunes were greatly appreciated by the Denver crowd were the perfect way to close out such a massive set from da butcher himself.

All-in-all last Tuesday night was one of the rowdiest and most energetic editions of Electronic Tuesdays that I have been a part of so far and I don’t think that my body has fully recovered from this insane night of bass music. Big ups to Shiverz & Shack D for breaking off Denver with their hard hitting sound and taking no prisoners on the Mile High edition of the Chop City Tour presented by Sub.mission!
