As the month of October moves along swiftly, Sub.mission has been coming at us full force with some of the most well-rounded and diverse lineups that captivate bass music lovers of every spectrum. One of my favorite things about Electronic Tuesdays is that the event showcases not only the hottest talent from around the globe, but plenty of the upcoming and well established selectors on the local scene as well, all under the same roof! From the moment that I had found out that Compa was going to be making his return to Denver on his 2015 North America tour, my calendar had been marked with great anticipation and when Tuesday night finally arrived, my excitement was at an all time high. Here’s how the night went!

The night began at 8:00pm sharp with the weekly DJ battles and selectors Siren, Synchronicity, Aviatrix, & Jang put their game faces on to battle it out head-to-head and show the Electronic Tuesdays crowd what they’re made of. This week’s battle was slightly different and certainly refreshing as 3 of the 4 battlers this week were female participants. In a scene that is heavily dominated by male DJ’s/Producers, it was great to see 3 chicks step up to the decks and solidify their presence in the underground dubstep circuit. Their looks could kill, and their beats were even more vicious. Big ups to Siren, Synchronicity, and Aviatrix for putting it down and a special shout-out to Jang for getting the crowd going with a set of 100% original material. The electronic music scene in Colorado is truly one of the most diverse and well talented scenes in the nation and we are reminded of this every single Tuesday night. After a heated battle among the 4 acts, Siren snatched the victory with her dubstep & grime influenced sound and walked away as this week’s winner!

Following the opening DJ battles it was now time for Recon DNB’s very own Goreteks to take the stage and amplify the energy in the room with their upbeat Jungle/Drum & Bass sound performed on vinyl records. Goreteks is a duo comprised of DJ’s ‘Baloo’ and ‘Strode’ and when the 2 join forces, they are surely a force to be reckoned with. Throughout the years that I have been attending shows in Denver, I have seen Goreteks perform a handful of times and knew to expect a proper set full of bangers and on Tuesday night I surely wasn’t disappointed. From beginning to end, their entire set flowed and progressed flawlessly and they brought a refreshing taste of some old school original Junglist style to Electronic Tuesdays. If you were feelin’ the vibe that Goreteks brought to the table on Tuesday night, be sure to keep tabs on this exciting duo as they have been holding it down in Colorado for many years and show no sign of slowing down!

Next up it was the moment we had all been waiting for as Manchester’s very own Compa made his highly anticipated Denver return to hold it down in an all vinyl/acetate headlining performance. Having been signed to Mala’s Deep Medi Musik label at the young age of 21, Compa has solidified himself as one of the most talented artists on the underground dubstep circuit and has been making some serious waves on an international scale over the years. With massive releases on top labels such as Boka Records, Lion Charge, and of course, the mighty Deep Medi, Compa has proved that he is here to stay and continues to push true sound system music across the globe. One of the main reasons why I have so much respect for Compa is because he stays true to DJ’ing culture in which he brings crates of vinyl/acetate records to each performance; comprised of some of the newest and rarest tunes to ever be pressed. In an age where a large majority of today’s DJ’s are making the transition to digital alternatives to store and perform their music, it has become a rarity to see an artist keep true to the roots and foundation of true DJ’ing culture and keep the art form alive and well. From the moment Compa stepped up to the decks, he made his presence felt and spent zero time messing around and unleashed that classic UK dubstep sound that is reminiscent of the early underground warehouse vibe in which dubstep was birthed. Among the extensive arsenal of tunes that Compa rinsed out on Tuesday night, some of the high points of his set were when he dropped some of my all time favorite tunes like Mala’s classic ‘Blue Notez’ , ‘Night’ by Benga & Coki, ‘Kalawanji’ by Kromestar, & ‘Poison Dart’ by The Bug & Warrior Queen, to only name a few… His entire set was masterfully blended and to witness a headlining performance from such a talent as Compa on a Tuesday night is a very special treat and I have Sub.mission to thank for it! Without a doubt, that was one of the most special performances I have witnessed so far and made for a night that I won’t soon forget!

Now it was time for Sub.mission resident Dillard to take the stage and close out the night and keep the dance floor busy until the end of the night. Dillard is one of my personal favorite artists on the roster of Sub.mission’s resident DJ’s and to see him live in the mix is always a pleasure. Over the summer, Dillard delivered one of my favorite sets at Colorado’s esteemed Sonic Bloom music festival in June and I was really looking forward to seeing him unleash some serious bass weight at Cervantes’ Other Side on Tuesday night. His deep and minimal style is fitting for any occasion and every time you see the name ‘Dillard’ on a lineup, you better have your dancing shoes laced up and be ready to groove. On Tuesday night he delivered a set packed with original material that made for some weighty low-end frequencies that rumbled the dance floor and kept the vibe flowing strong. In my opinion, there couldn’t have been a better talent to close out the night and follow up a headlining performance from Compa.
