As the last Electronic Tuesdays of the month of October came to a close, there was no better way to finish out the month with a bang! This past Tuesday night we gathered on the dance floor to get our Halloween festivities started proper and we embraced massive headlining performances from Grimblee vs Hecka, along with the Electronic Tuesdays debut of Bogtrotter! From beginning to end, the entire night was stacked with musical talent and we all have Sub.mission to thank for it! Every year Sub.mission puts together a well-rounded lineup of some of your favorite local talent as well as top-notch headliners to close out the month of October and this year was no exception. If you were in attendance at this special occasion, you are well aware that the dance floor was buzzing, the drinks were flowing, and the bass was hitting hard at Cervantes’ Other Side!
The night began at 8:30 pm and the Electronic Tuesdays crowd came out early and found their home on the dance floor as the local DJ battle was in full effect featuring performances from G-Zis, Goldyloxx, & Quintic Calabi. This battle showcased a variety of talents and the selectors touched upon genres such as Dubstep, Glitch Hop, Downtempo beats, Drumstep, & more. Every week the battles are very unique and completely different and this week we got a taste several electronic styles from nearly every spectrum. After a heated battle among the 3 DJ’s, Goldyloxx snatched the victory and was crowned this week’s winner. Goldyloxx performed a 100% original set featuring only his tunes and the crowd and judges were certainly impressed. (Eyediola Photography)Following the opening DJ Battles, it was time for Sub.mission Residents Caustik, CurlyOne, Subliminal, & Swayd to take the stage and join forces in a massive back-to-back performance to really kick things up a notch. I must say that this mixture of DJ’s is a deadly combination and on Tuesday night they each brought their signature style to the decks and reminded us what they’re all about! No strangers to Cervantes’ Other Side/Electronic Tuesdays, these guys know just what it takes to get the crowd moving and give us what we want- BASS! Between the 4 of them switching off every other tune, there was no shortage of beats and plenty of classic material as well as current dance floor bangers were rinsed out in the mix. Sub.mission has a wide and diverse range of artists on their roster of resident DJ’s and CurlyOne, Subliminal, Caustik & Swayd are definitely some of my personal favorites as their skillful mixing and track selection always bring something new and refreshing to the table.

As the crowd grew in size and the night took off in full swing, it was now time for the main event which consisted of a headlining performance from Grimblee vs Hecka! Hailing from Salt Lake City, Grimblee is an artist that has always stood out to me for his top-notch production as well as his next-level stage presence and energy. I discovered Grimblee’s sound around the time of the Sub.mission 6 year anniversary when I found out that he was going to be one of the headliners for this special gathering and ever since then, I’ve never looked back. Grimblee also put on one of my favorite performances at the highly esteemed Sonic Bloom music festival back in June and he is always a pleasure to see perform. This was the 1st set in which I would see him incorporate a fair amount of tunes from his experimental side project alias, ‘Hecka’ into the mix and he blended both styles in supreme fashion. Hard hitting bass lines combined with soulful, danceable melodies filled his set and spanned through an extensive catalogue of sound that made for yet another unforgettable performance in the Mile High City from the one like Grimblee/Hecka.

(Eyediola Photography)Having smashed recent performances at Sub.mission’s warehouse party back in May and making his return to perform at the Club Vinyl rooftop party series in July, Bogtrotter has been making some serious waves throughout the festival circuit and club nights alike. His psychedelic and glitched out sound will make you dance and have you questioning your sanity all at the same time. Bogtrotter incorporates a wide variety of elements into his production and to hear these sounds played out live in the intimacy of Cervantes’ Other Side on a proper sound system was a very special treat to close out this special Halloween night! I recently found out that Bogtrotter has moved to Denver and I sure hope to see him perform more often as he never disappoints and is a fitting artist for many occasions.

Sub.mission comes correct with their Halloween parties each year and on Friday night they are brining Goth Trad, Nomine, Caustik, Crix Saix, & Gumshoe to the Fusion Factory of a 21+ after hours warehouse party with a massive sound system and that is exactly where I hope to see everyone! Each and every Tuesday night Sub.mission brings forth massive headliners combined with some of the sickest local talent and if you haven’t been to a Tuesday recently, you’ve been missing out!
