In full swing of the immense booking schedule Sub.Mission is bringing this fall, we prepare ourselves for the 3rd Innamind Takeover to take place in Denver. If you were fortunate enough to be at the last two, you would have caught sets from artists including LAS, Gantz, Thelem, Quest, Quantum Soul, and label boss Kursk. This edition features the return of the stateside dwelling, New Zealand native Kursk and the Denver debut of Innamind newcomer Karma. And in case you didn’t know, Karma is absolutely on fire right now.
While Karma has recently blown up as one of the hottest names in the global dubstep scene, he has been diligently crafting his sound for years. Hailing from London, Karma smashes the contemporary take on the foundation sound that morphs the lighthearted, dubwise groove with trippy, otherworldly percussion. After releasing music on MindStep Music, Karma unleashed the legendary How Ya Feel / Smear Dub which marked the second ever release from the mighty SYSTEM label. And after throwing down a promo mix earlier this year filled with dubs, his debut release on Innamind surfaced this past August. Starting things off, Heal is a beast of a tune that lifts the soul with bouncy subs, bubbly percussion, and enchanting vocals. Next, Rumble Fish wrecks the dancefloor with fury, as eerie atmospheres from the jungle accompany trembling bass that puts the listener in a meditative state. Finally, his collab with Japan’s Dubtro results in the delicious creeper Flee in the Fog which wields an absolutely wicked time-bending noise that sends shivers down the spine.
Also headlining the night, the Innamind label boss Kursk will be blessing the stage with his beloved collection of dubs. Running the acclaimed Innamind, Kursk clearly has an ear for sound system music. It seems like Innamind is consistently at the forefront of the scene, pushing forward thinking dubstep that incorporates as much tribute to the roots as it does mind-altering style and flare. With a vast collection of dubplates from the scene’s elites along with aspiring up-and-comers, his set is sure to showcase the future sounds of 140 from across the world.
As a cherry on top, local stalwarts Caustik, Dillard, and Trisiclopox are opening. From the fresh selections of Caustik to the deep productions of Dillard to the dark productions of Trisiclopox, there is not a dull moment in the night. As the Sub.Mission and Innamind crew join forces and take over the Walnut Room, we are in for yet another treat. This one goes down November 14th. Don’t sleep!
