From the moment that I had received word that AMIT was going to be playing a headlining set at Electronic Tuesdays I anxiously awaited this massive night as this would be my first time finally seeing the master himself live in the mix. To add to the exhilaration, Recon DNB boss Despise was going to be warming up the decks and Sub.mission resident Dillard was closing out the night. With such a stacked roster of talent all under the same roof, this night was going to be nothing short of legendary and we surely were not disappointed. The vibe was thick, the bass was hitting hard, and this past Tuesday night was one for the books! Here’s how the night went!
As the year’s first snow storm of the year was set to hit Denver on Tuesday night, bass music enthusiasts of many shapes and forms made their way out to Cervantes’ Other Side to embrace yet another fully-loaded line up of some of the sickest local and international talent from around the way. The night began at 8:00pm sharp with the opening DJ Battles as selectors Endo, Crimsic, Zonra & Hite took the stage to battle it out and show the crowd what they’re made of. Each of the 4 acts came equipped with heir own unique sound and got the crowd vibing early in the night and proved why it is important to come out as soon as doors open. Denver truly has one of the most diverse and well-rounded local scenes in the entire nation and we are reminded of this every single Tuesday night. After a heated battle among the 4 selectors, Zonra snatched the victory and was crowned this week’s champ! He threw down a performance packed with 100% original material comprised of downtempo/glitched-out sounds that initiated the crowd from the very beginning and kept the bass rumbling under the dancing feet. (Eyediola Photography)Following the opening DJ Battles, it was now time to kick things up a notch as DJ Despise stepped up to the decks to amplify the energy in the room and set the tone for AMIT’s headlining performance. Despise is a true staple throughout the underground bass music scene in Colorado and is widely identified as the mastermind and boss in charge of local Drum & Bass powerhouse promoter, Recon DNB. Despise is a true force to be reckoned with when she steps up to the decks and unleashes her upbeat Drum&Bass/Junglist style that gets crowds moving from beginning to end. Maintaining a stage presence that is calm, cool, and collected, she gets straight down to business and throughout the years she has established herself as a true don in the Denver scene and beyond. On Tuesday night she laid it down proper once again and I couldn’t picture a better artist to play the primary support slot for the one like AMIT. Ranging from warehouse parties, the basement of Club Vinyl, and most recently Cervantes’ Other Side, Despise kills it each and every time and to see her perform live is a very special treat!

(Eyediola Photography)Next up it was time for the moment we had all been patiently waiting for, a headlining performance from the one and only AMIT! Having missed AMIT’s previous performances in Denver at the Recon DNB nights, I was especially excited to see him perform in the intimacy of The Other Side and get to experience his sound live and direct on this fine Tuesday night. The atmosphere throughout the room was dark and lurky, and the flame from the lighter crew illuminated the dance floor as AMIT stepped up to the decks and didn’t take any prisoners. Internationally recognized as one of the most diverse and proficient DJ’s/producers on the underground circuit, AMIT’s sound is truly remarkable and spans from rootsy Dubstep, all the way to upbeat DNB and everything in between. One of the things that I love most about AMIT is that his style is not exclusive to a single BPM and he's always keepin' it fresh. With massive releases on some of the game’s top labels like Exit Records, Tempa, Metalheadz, and his own imprint ‘Amar Records’, AMIT is an artist that knows no boundaries and on Tuesday night he showed us what he’s all about! Tunes like ‘Fatty Batty’, ‘Survivor’, and ‘Acid Trip’ were among the audience’s favorites and they set off the crowd like never before as he flexed the sound system at The Other Side and penetrated the crowd with no shortage of low-end vibration. His minimal style induced listeners into a deep state of meditation and he made a true statement in his Electronic Tuesdays debut to deliver one of my favorite E-Tuesdays sets to date! The fact that we get to witness such massive performances from top-notch international headliners all on a Tuesday night demonstrates how truly spoiled we are in Denver when it comes to the talent quality that we are graced with week after week thanks to Sub.mission.

To the average DJ, following up a performance from an artist of the caliber of AMIT would seem like a highly intimidating and daunting task. To Dillard, this was an opportunity for him to keep the crowd’s attention and keep the vibe in the room flowing strong until the very end yet again. The Denver-based DJ producer has just what it takes to keep the crowd’s feet moving and dancing ‘til the lights come on.
Without hesitation, Dillard fearlessly stepped up the stage and made his presence felt as he unleashed his signature, minimal 140 sound that he is widely known for. Dillard is an artist whose style is synonymous with traditional dubstep vibes and stays true to the underground and he is one of my personal favorite selectors on the Sub.mission roster of resident DJ’s. If you were feelin’ the vibe that Dillard brought to the table on Tuesday night be sure to catch him live in the mix at the Innamind Recordings takeover at The Walnut Room in Denver this upcoming Saturday night as he holds it down from 1:00am to close and brings forth proper sound once again!

Those that were in attendance know how truly special this night was and if you didn’t make it, you definitely missed out! All good though, Sub.mission has got you covered with top-notch bass music all month long and will be coming at you full force with next week’s throwdown featuring a headlining performance from the legendary Quest from Deep Medi, along with sets from Dubwol & Caustik!
