(Eyediola Photography)As the month of November moves along swiftly, Sub.mission has provided bass music lovers in the Mile High City no shortage of top-notch local and international talent every single Tuesday night. Two nights ago we were graced with the highly anticipated return of the legend himself, Quest from Deep Medi and he delivered a truly memorable performance that won’t soon be forgotten. Having seen Quest perform a handful of times over the years, I knew to buckle up tight and expect a massive night in sound at Cervantes’ Other Side. To add to the overwhelming excitement of seeing Quest perform once again, Sub.mission resident DJ ‘Dubwol’ would also be making his Denver return since moving to Los Angeles a couple months ago, and badman ‘Caustik’ closed out the night! The entire night was stacked with talent from beginning to end and those that were in attendance at this massive throwdown know just how special of a night it truly was. Here’s the rewind!
The night began at 8:00pm sharp and the Electronic Tuesdays crowd flooded the dance floor as soon as doors opened to take advantage of a fully-loaded night in bass music. One of the coolest parts about Electronic Tuesdays is that at the beginning of the night there are a series of DJ Battles featuring 4 local acts battling it out to win over the crowd and advance to the next round of the competition in which they face the fellow winners of their respective month and compete to perform supporting slots at upcoming Sub.mission shows. It’s always a refreshing experience to get to see all of the wide-ranging talent and diversity that the electronic music scene in Colorado is comprised of and watch each act make the most out of their 30 minute time slot. This week’s battlers included Rem & Ryuk, Sognar, Tanner Buffy, & Titan.
Styles and genres ranged from Dubstep, Drum & Bass, Liquid, and wonkier sounds as well. After a heated battle among of the battlers, Titan won over the crowd and judges with his upbeat DNB and was crowned this week’s winner! Following the opening DJ Battles, it was now time for Sub.mission resident Dubwol to take the stage and kick things up a notch in his Denver return. No stranger to Cervantes’ Other Side, Dubwol has been performing at Electronic Tuesdays since they early years and has become a local favorite in the underground bass music scene throughout Colorado. Since relocating to the city of Los Angeles a couple months ago, Dubwol has been hard at work in the lab developing his sound and broadening his musical expertise and tapping into the deeper, low-end spectrums of bass music. Upon taking the stage, Dubwol’s clarity and focus resonated with the crowd and his evolving sound was very well received on the dance floor. Moving bodies and nodding heads surrendered themselves to the sound of Dubwol and the only option was to dance and let the sound system carry you forth. The pressing bass weight from the subwoofers vibrated the dance floor and Dubwol made a true statement in his Colorado return and flawlessly set the tone for the one like Quest!

Now that the crowd had been properly warmed up by Dubwol’s set, it was now time for the moment that we had all been waiting for—a headlining performance from the master himself; Quest! Dating back to the Sub.mission 5 year anniversary when I first saw Quest perform, he truly stood out as both a DJ and a producer and to see him perform live in the intimacy of Cervantes’ Other Side was a very special treat. Since the moment that I found out that Quest would be performing at Electronic Tuesdays a couple weeks ago, my calendar had been marked with great anticipation and on Tuesday night he surely didn’t disappoint! Quest is an artist that is internationally recognized for his triple deck mixing abilities and next-level track selection. As far as the true dubstep veterans go, Quest is a name that has become synonymous with the underground scene and he is a true force to be reckoned with behind the decks. Personally, I consider Quest to be the true ‘Double Drop King’ as he is a true selector that is known to flawlessly blend together tunes that the average DJ wouldn’t dare attempt. Among the arsenal of classic and exclusive material that Quest rinsed out on Tuesday night, some of my favorite tunes included Kahn’s ‘Abbatoir VIP’, Swindle’s ‘Forest Funk’ into Coki’s ‘Spongebob’ , Kromestar’s dance floor banger ‘Mere Sher’ , to only name a few. Since signing onto Mala’s infamous ‘Deep Medi’ imprint, Quest has solidified himself as a true Don in the game and has certified releases on System, Innamind, Dub Police, and most recently, his own label ‘Antisocial Recordings’ which he co-founded with Silkie. We were fortunate enough to get a well-balanced mix of all of the above labels’ tunage on Tuesday night and the dance floor was packed from beginning to end. The roar from the crowd was neverending and the flames from the lighter crew illuminated the dance throughout the entire set. As I write this review, I am still trying to piece together my brain from the bass-heavy madness that Quest ensued on Tuesday night as this was undoubtedly one of the craziest Tuesday nights in recent memory. Big ups to Quest for coming through and kicking a proper lesson in true Dubstep sound yet again!

(Eyediola Photography)To finish out the night in style, it was now time for Sub.mission resident DJ Caustik to take the stage and keep the vibe in the room going until the very end and I couldn’t think of a better act to close out the night. Following a massive performance at The Fusion Factory on Halloween, I was really excited to see Caustik throw down once again and bring those same vibes to close out this massive edition of Electronic Tuesdays. As expected, Caustik took the decks and spent zero time getting down to business unleashing his signature foundation, rootsy dubstep that flexed the sound system at The Other Side. Known as one of the most experienced DJ’s on the Sub.mission roster of resident DJ’s, Caustik knows how to cater to any crowd and push true sound system culture when he’s live in the mix.
