Coming into the new year with some serious momentum following a sold out show from Truth & Megalodon last week, the 1st Electronic Tuesday of 2016 went off with a bang at Cervantes’ Other Side. For nearly 5 years now, Sub.mission has transformed an ordinary weeknight into the best weekly electronic music showcase in the Mile High City and the new year got off to a proper start with this week’s installment. A completely stacked lineup featuring some of Colorado’s sickest local talent, along with the highly anticipated Denver debut of Algo made for an unforgettable Tuesday night and if you were not in attendance, you surely missed out! Here’s the rewind!
The night began at 9:00pm and bass music enthusiasts came out early to enjoy a fully loaded night in sound with a roster packed with top notch talent from top-to-bottom. Vendors set up towards the back of the venue and showcased their unique treasures including original artwork, gems/crystals, t-shirts, pins, and much more. Aside from the music, one of my favorite parts about Electronic Tuesdays is checking out the vendors each week and seeing what unique crafts catch my eye. The feeling of supporting independent artists and musicians alike is very rewarding and Electronic Tuesdays is the perfect platform to do so week after week.
This Tuesday the night began with the December Winners Showcase battles featuring the winners from the DJ battles from the previous month to square off once again and prove to the crowd and judges that they have what it takes to earn the crown and advance to perform a supporting time slot at an upcoming Sub.misiosn show. Selectors Spliff, Contra Scandal, and Ill Kid made their Electronic Tuesday returns and brought their A-game to the stage. Each artist performed diverse and well rounded sets that demonstrated how rich and distinct the local scene throughout the state really is. After a heated battle among the 3 acts, Ill Kid beat out the competition and won was crowned the battle champion for the month of December. His minimal and rootsy dubstep style combined with supreme mixing abilities that proved his experience as a DJ and he surely made a lasting impression in in Tuesday night’s battle. Next up it was time for the Denver debut of the one like Algo! A packed crowd of both new and familiar faces made their way to the front of the dance floor to give Algo a warm welcome in his 1st ever Denver appearance as many of the audience had been patiently waiting quite a while for Algo to finally hit the Mile High City and grace us with his hard hitting dubstep sound. Over the years Algo has made a name for himself as one of the most explosive and exciting talents throughout the modern dubstep circuit and his skull-crushing sound is known to get bodies skanking and heads turning wherever he performs. With certified releases on some of the top labels in the game such as SMOG, Firepower Records, Uplink Audio, Rottun Records, & more, the young DJ/Producer has gained attention for both his skills and abilities in the studio, as well as behind the decks. From the moment he took the stage, Algo got straight to business and amplified the energy in the room. The set that he performed on Tuesday night demonstrated Algo’s vast musical background and the beats he played were not exclusive to the 140bpm with styles ranging from Drum & Bass, Old School Dubstep, Trap, and of course his signature tear-out and wonkier style. From the moment he took the stage, Algo instigated a rowdy audience with fists waving furiously and there wasn’t a single body in the venue that was not moving. Among the crowd favorites were tune such as Algo’s classics ‘Evil Gas’, 'World of Hurt' and ‘Yes’ by Bassnectar & Datsik. His set was a complete journey and he made a true stament in his Denver debut and proved why he is one of the sickest talents to emerge in recent years. On Tuesday night ‘Lil Algo’ put forth some big sound and I sure hope to see him perform in Denver again sometime soon!

Algo at Electronic Tuesdays:
Following Algo’s headlining performance, it was now time for the one like Siren to make her Electronic Tuesdays return and remind us what she’s all about-- bassweight! Some of you might remember Siren from her previous appearances as Electronic Tuesdays as she boasts an undefeated streak in the DJ Battles and was crowned the battle champion of the month in October. On Tuesday night she made her return to close out the night following Algo’s performance and kicked a proper lesson in true sound system culture. Having seen Siren perform in all of her previous appearances at Cervantes, I knew to buckle up tight and expect a performance that was going to shake the ground beneath me and bring forth some serious sub bass. While maintaining a stage presence that was calm, cool, and collected, Siren proceeded to flawlessly blend some of my favorite dance floor bangers and her selection of 140 tunes coordinated seamlessly with the Sub.mission style. Tunes like Trisicloplox’s ‘Monolith’ , Las’ ‘Uuah’ , Truth’s ‘German Whip’ , and Nomine’s ‘Blind Man’ were among some of my personal favorites that she played out and had the late night E-Tuesday crew vibing with feet moving and heads nodding. From beginning to end, Siren flexed the sound system at The Other Side and the output from the subwoofers penetrated the entire dance floor with a profound rumble. In a vastly male-dominated industry, it is always a pleasure to see female acts step up to the decks and shatter the barriers of today’s scene. Big ups to Siren for delivering a jaw dropping performance and taking The Other Side by storm!
