OG Production Tip: 

Think of each sound in your tune like a puzzle piece within the frequency chart. 
(0hz - 17000hz) 

If you cut out all the unnecessary noise within the individual sound you're focused on (snares/kicks/percussion/synths/pads/etc.), then they should all have enough space to rest perfectly next to each other without having to use a sidechain. 

Try to use sidechain as an added effect to accent your sound rather than using it as a quick & easy way to clean up your mix.. it'll open up plenty of doors for some creativity in the long run. In depth tip - I cut my subs at 30hz and remove all highs down to 100-150hz and keep it on mono ALWAYS since putting it in stereo could really mess with a speaker in the wrong way.
