"Don't be afraid to resample sounds.  Though it can be very useful to be able to alter the source sound in a synth during the writing process, sometimes resampling over & over while processing it each time can have a better outcome.  I remember an old interview with Noisia on Dogsonacid where they were mentioning how they will dedicate a day just to making riffs to be used later.  That stuck with me.  It's easy to want immediate results, but sometimes spending a day of prep work can be more beneficial in the long run."
